m6A methylation of mRNA  promotes their transcription thought RNA polymerase II

This study, leads by G.Junion ( team  Diversification of muscle and heart cells in normal and pathological conditions ),  published in the journal Molecular Cell (Akhtar et al.) shows a new mechanism for regulating gene expression through modification of RNA. Using a combination of molecular biology and bioinformatics, they demonstrate that the enzymatic complex called m6A methyltransferase (MTC) enables RNA polymerase II to escape pausing and perform transcription, and thus precisely control the expression of genes responsible for the development of organisms.
